In 2012 I made the best move of my life and left the film world to become a Photographer. To celebrate my big move I went to Ethiopia for a few months and had an amazing trip trekking in the hills of Tigray with a company called TESFA and then driving into the Danakil Depression.
The Danakil is a desert area in the Afar region of northeastern Ethiopia, north of the Great Rift Valley that is widely known locally as the Dallol depression. This is both the hottest region on earth averaged year round and one of the most geologically active. We spent a few nights sleeping in the amazing desert there, one night we were lucky enough to climb up and sleep by a volcano.
These pictures are the first I took as a 'freelance' photographer and even though my career has gone a very different way – they are very special images to me.
